The Bonner Advisory Board (BAB)

The Bonner Advisory Board (BAB) was launched in 2009 to provide an outlet for student voice to the Bonner Foundation and for connection amongst the national Bonner network. Any Bonner student who is committed to the Bonner program and seeks a way to contribute to the national network is encouraged to apply. Approximately ten motivated and passionate student leaders are selected to serve on the BAB each year. Though the role of the BAB has evolved from year to year, they always play a unique and instrumental role in feedback, facilitation, and support for national Bonner initiatives and national meetings (such as Bonner Congress and Summer Leadership Institute).

Learn more about the BAB by reading about our current BAB members, downloading the BAB Handout, or reading testimonials from former BAB members!

BAB Alumni Testimonials

Written as shared insight to new BAB members, the BAB alumni testimonials below showcase the impact of being on the Bonner Advisory Board.

  • Megan Breitenbach '17: I spent two years as a BAB member and it made my time spent as a Bonner even more meaningful. Having a connection to the Bonner Foundation and assisting with various projects gave me a new perspective on what it means to be a Bonner. While serving as a BAB member, you will meet Bonners from all around the country through SLI, Bonner Congress, and your BAB calls. Getting to know how the Bonner Network functions, meeting individuals across the network, and branching out from my own Bonner school allowed me to grow as a leader.
  • Anna Grace Barry '17: With my two years of experience on the Bonner Advisory Board, I can promise new BAB members that this will be an experience you won’t forget! You will truly have the opportunity to make your voice heard within the network and represent your program and region to the Foundation.
  • Emily Batista '17: This board is not only a great honor to serve, but also an invaluable opportunity to analyze and improve the capacity of your Bonner program, and Bonner Programs across the country. The opportunity you have ahead of you is one that will lead you to make countless memories of meeting new friends, attending Bonner Congress and/or SLI, and working to advance our amazing scholarship program, when possible! I can without a doubt say that my experience on BAB has allowed me to develop my critical thinking and professionalism skills- two things that certainly came in-handy while applying for graduate school programs!
  • Asuka Watanabe '18:  I really enjoyed how collaborative BAB is and how open and dedicated members (at Bonner schools and the National Foundation) were to contributing their honest opinion and feedback to various initiatives.  It's incredible to hear about what other Bonner schools are doing to build community in the pursuit of social justice. I especially cherish the friendships I have made with some of the members--definitely try to attend a Bonner conference to meet and continue community building during and after BAB!
  • Adam Cooper '18: Being on BAB let me "peek behind the curtain" to how the Foundation and national Network are run. I was able to meet so many fantastic leaders, learn from their strengths and bring back practices to my home institution.
  • Thomas Ruhl '19: The network is huge and diverse. The way your program does something may not work for another program, but that does not mean that we should not be discussing how we do things. These discussions often lead to the best new ideas. Always be willing to share how you do things, but make sure not to force them onto people, and be open to new things!
