CAMPUS AT A GLANCE & KEY FACTS

The mission of Earlham College, an independent, residential college, is to provide the highest quality undergraduate education in the liberal arts, including the sciences, shaped by the distinctive perspectives of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). A basic faith of Friends is that all truth is God's truth; thus Earlham emphasizes: pursuit of truth, wherever that pursuit leads; lack of coercion, letting the evidence lead that search; respect for the consciences of others; openness to new truth and therefore the willingness to search; veracity, rigorous integrity in dealing with the facts; application of what is known to improving our world.

At Earlham College this education is carried on with a concern for the world in which we live and for improving human society. The College strives to educate morally sensitive leaders for future generations. Therefore Earlham stresses global education, peaceful resolution of conflict, equality of persons, and high moral standards of personal conduct.

CAMPUS-WIDE ENGAGEMENT AT A GLANCE

  • Earlham Engage was launched in the fall of 2015. Earlham Engage is an online portal for helping students and faculty find and respond to community requests for volunteer service. Over 500 people have registered with Earlham Engage so far, and several dozen nonprofits have profiles and volunteer needs posted. Partners can also post community events that they want members of the Earlham community to attend. Earlham Engage will serve as a valuable resource for the revamped first year seminars. Beginning in fall 2016, these “local seminars” will focus on a variety of topics corresponding to the disciplines of faculty teaching the seminars, but each seminar will include a component that connects to the local or regional area surrounding Earlham to help students establish a sense of place. Visit Earlham Engage at http://engage.earlham.edu
  • Tyrian Robertson, a graduate of 2017, organized two new events at the college as part of her role as a Senior Intern. These events included a "Burst the Bubble" bus tour of Richmond to get students and faculty off the campus and out into the community to see all the cool things we have. She also organized a career development program called "Level Up Your Life". This event had career coaches helping with cover letters and resumes, and community members talking about networking, local organizations and grad school.
