Application Deadline for 2022-2023 Academic Year: September 2, 2022 by 5pm

Number of Bonner Students: Alumni- 5 Current- 4

Highlighted Bonner Specific Programs:

  • Our program specifically focuses on using feminist and queer readings, methodologies, and theories in order to allow students to understand their own identity and agency within the community. In addition to this, students engage in critical discussion and reflections that allow them to apply the feminist and queer methodologies, critiques, and theories into their own practices within the Reno/Sparks community. They should strive to have a better understanding of systemic and systematic inequalities in order to properly identify community needs.
  • Our staff are deeply committed to providing and cultivating spaces for students to explore their own identity, agency, and place within the academy and community. Staff provide leadership skills and opportunities that focus on social action, change, and justice to all students within the program, and students are encouraged to work with staff for guidance, mentorship, and professional development.
  • Students should work towards goals that focus on critical and consensual civic leadership, service, and engagement. This said, all students are required to sign the "Principles of Unity" accord, which outlines key expectations of their behavior within the program. The "Principles of Unity" was adopted from the feminist group: Coalition to Stop Institutional Violence. At the core of their program was a collective of individuals whose sole purpose was the cultivate a community that advocates for their community through anti-institutional violence activism. Students, in essence, should come to learn the basic ideologies of the feminist approach to addressing systematic and systemic inequalities and injustices.

CAMPUS-WIDE ENGAGEMENT AT A GLANCE

Currently, our program has been under redesign and restructure. In the future, we are hoping to provide students with the opportunities to create on and off campus partnerships. This should hopefully allow students to be critically engaged with their surrounding community and provide a sense of place-based knowledge and scholarship. As an R1 institution, our program is highly focused on establishing continuous partnerships that incorporate academic intensity and rigor. Most students will complete a Community Engaged Project that will allow them to apply their knowledge into their own academic research.
