- Bates Bonners often create programs that provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for members of the Bates community. A recent example is a program that provides opportunities for Bates students to form friendships with adults with developmental disabilities.
CAMPUS-WIDE ENGAGEMENT AT A GLANCE
- Members of the Harward Center team worked with the Bates Student Government to create a new Community Liaison officer position for all student clubs and organizations. Community Liaisons work with Harward Center staff to develop relevant volunteer opportunities for their groups.
- The Harward Center offers two programs aimed at supporting students who want to bring their academic skills and interests to bear in community-engaged projects. The Community-Engaged Research Fellows Program provides funding, mentoring, and peer reflection for student projects that advance public needs, as articulated in dialogue with community partners, through significant academic research. The Short-Term Action/Research Team (STA/RT) program provides opportunities for students to use their quantitative and qualitative research skills on behalf of partners who have identified particular research needs.
